[image:448 align=left hspace=10 vspace=10 size=medium]Nothing stirs up mainstream press, politicians, and parents quite like a game that is similar to the Grand Theft Auto series. 25 to Life created a lot of commotion over its subject matter in the months leading up to its release, but the game is far from front page status now. The game leaves you wanting to play San Andreas or Max Payne for a quality experience.
25 to Life puts you in the shoes of Freeze, a gang member who wants out of his dangerous business. His fellow gang members aren't too happy about his decision and set him up during his "last job." His wife and baby are kidnapped and he must get to the bottom of the entire ordeal.
The gameplay is disappointingly easy and straight forward. You'll find yourself shooting at faceless thugs and police officers who have absolutely no ability to predict your actions. Enemies will not charge or flank you. They'll wait for you to make your move before firing a shot. If you find decent cover, it's possible to put the controller down, go get a snack, and find yourself unscathed when you return. Then, a few peeks around a corner with some well placed shots will eliminate every enemy. To make matters worse, the maps are very linear and predictable. You'll know exactly where to go and what to expect at any given time. For instance, if you're in an open courtyard you can bet that there is an imminent shootout.
If you're looking for a gangster game, go with San Andreas. If you're looking for a great third person shooter, go with Max Payne. Unless you've already played those two games so much that the disks have disintegrated, avoid 25 to Life.
